Carlos Forbs joins Club Brugge after leaving Ajax via Whatsapp

The Portuguese international under 21, Carlos Forbs, was presented this Thursday as a new player for the Belgian club of Club Brugge, on a contract until 2029. Without officially disclosing the figures, the Dutch press hypothesized that the agreement had been finalized for around 8.5 million euros.

“Carlos Forbs signed a contract with Club Brugge until 2029 and will wear the number new jersey”, “ announced the Belgian league finalist last season.

It should not be forgotten that at the end of June, the 21 -year -old winger was dismissed by Ajax via WhatsApp, a controversial decision that sparked discord and left the Union of Dutch footballers in shock. Despite this, Ajax sports director Alex Kroes was praise for the Portuguese player.

“Carlos has very good character traits, is always positive and is also a curious and motivated player. Unfortunately, however, he has not been able to become a starter with us. He is still very young and therefore has a whole career in front of him. He will continue like that in Belgium and we wish him the best chance”, ” He said, addressing the Ajax website.

The Portuguese winger had no choice but to seek a future outside of Amsterdam after a unsuccessful loan spell in Wolverhampton last season, only making 11 appearances without scoring a goal.

Recently, the winger participated in the European UEFA under 21 championship in three games, still as a substitute.

It should be remembered that the attacker left sport at an early age for the Manchester City Academy, where he grew up until, in 2022/23, he was considered the best player in the Reserve League (under 21), with 25 goals and 11 assists in 11 games.

It is this campaign, as well as a good European championship for UEFA under 19, which led Ajax to sign it for 14 million euros in 2023/24.

However, he did not convince during his first season, where he scored three goals and four assists in a lamentable campaign for Ajax and was not one of the plans of Francesco Farioli, the coach now of FC Porto, last season.
