The legend of football Michel Platini disturbed a burglar in his villa in the south of France on Friday, a source close to the police investigation at AFP said.
Platini, 70, heard a noise in the property garden in the blackcurrant early in the morning and found himself face to face with a man in a black mask, who fled with several trophies and medals, said the source.
Platini played 72 times for France and won the Ballon d’Or for the best player in the world three years in a row from 1983 to 1985.
He directed France to the semi-finals of the 1982 and 1986 World Cup.
He was president of UEFA from 2007 to 2016 and was then involved in a financial scandal involving the president of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, but was acquitted in March this year.
