Tottenham Hotspur director Thomas Frank said he wanted his team to play the club’s motto “to dare to do” by playing courageous, aggressive and attacker, when he exhibited his vision during his first press conference on Friday.
Speaking before Saturday’s friendly match against Reading, Frank, who succeeded Ange Postcoglou last month, underlined his commitment to a high intensity style anchored in courage and ambition.
“I am very clear in my principles. I want to see the team be courageous, aggressive and attacking. Brave is linked to” daring is “,” told journalists.
“If you are not courageous, it is very difficult to achieve anything. Being aggressive is very important and, of course, we have to attack.”
Frank made a strong impression during his seven -year term in Brentford, where he built an attacker team that has constantly exceeded expectations after being promotional in the Premier League during the 2021 qualifiers.
During their four Premier League seasons under Frank, Brentford finished 13th, 9th, 16th and 10th and last quarter only four teams scored more than their 66 goals.
“It was very difficult (to leave Brentford) and also very easy. I am a person who goes everything. I got attached and I had excellent relationships there,” he said.
“I also thought it was perhaps time to challenge me and when a club with the extent of Tottenham came, I wanted to be part of it.”
The Danish had empathetic words for his Australian predecessor, Postcoglou, who was dismissed by the club despite the leading to their first major trophy in 17 years with victory in the final of the Europa League.
“First and foremost, Ange will forever be a legend here in Tottenham. One of the three who won a European trophy here and the first in 41 years,” he added.
“I think it was extremely positive that they won (Europa League). The first objective is that we must be able to participate in the four competitions. This must be the goal. I think 2019 was the last time they have managed to participate in various competitions.”
When asked if the frequent changes of the club in the canoe were a concern, Frank, 51 -year -old – the fifth full -time director of Spurs in six years – said that he had adopted the risk.
“I like to challenge myself. I have never been dismissed before, so this is one of the reasons why I have taken the job, so I can get a little more risks in my daily life,” he added.
“Coming to a big club, there is pressure. We have to play because it’s” we “, it’s me, the staff, the players. We have to do it together.”
“I like the ambition and all that I do, each decision that I have made so far, everything is long term. It is not a question of surviving a match, or a year or what is the 18 average months? No. It is in the long term.”
