What happened to the U19 scandalous team from England who won the euros 2018, notably Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs Stars


It has been a little over eight years since the young Lions of Keith Downing have marked history by becoming the first team of England to win the European Championship under 19 after a victory over Portugal. So what happened next?

England celebrated a memorable tournament victory in the Tengiz Burjanadze stadium in Gori, Georgia, while the second half’s goals from Easah Suliman of Aston Villa and Lukas Nmecha from Manchester City sealed a 2-1 hard victory.

Fulham midfielder Tayo Edun, who was one of the most coherent artists in England throughout the tournament, received a second offense in the 86th minute.

But despite a tense end, the young Lions managed to hang on to a 2017 sensational tournament record for the male development teams in England while they were celebrating 23 victories of 27 games played from the U17.

Here is a summary of each career path of each player since the victory of under 19 years old.

England XI:

Aaron Ramsdale (AFC Bournemouth)

Ramsdale experienced a superb tournament for young Lions, conceding only three goals while the Keith Downing team became the first team in England to win the U19 European Championship.

Three years later, the goalkeeper signed for Sheffield United before winning a move to Arsenal in 2021. After making 89 appearances for the Gunners, he joined Southampton recently linked to the summer of 2024.

Dujon Sterling (Chelsea)

Sterling spent six years in Chelsea between 2017 and 2023, but had trouble entering the first team. He spent most of his spell on loan to Coventry, Wigan, Blackpool and Stoke. He is now playing for the Rangers Scottish Première Side.

Jay Dasilva (Capt; Chelsea)

Another young man who has progressed in the Chelsea Academy, Dasilva, also spent a lot of time on loan, with spells such as Charlton and Bristol City. He finally signed a permanent agreement with the latter and spent four years in Ashton Gate before joining Coventry in 2023.

EDUN (Fulfulm).

Edun made two championship appearances for Fulham between 2016 and 2020. He would continue to play for Lincoln City, Blackburn, Charlton and Peterborough. The 27 -year -old recently signed for the County of League One Stockport.

Easah Suliman (Aston Villa)

Suliman made a senior appearance for Villa, as a substitute in the Carabao Cup against Wigan in August 2017, before joining the Portuguese Vitória SC outfit in 2020. He is currently playing for the National League national team in Azerbaijan and represents the Pakistani national team.

Isaac Buckley-Ricketts (Manchester City)

After failing to reach the score in City, Buckley-Ricketts joined Peterborough United in 2018 after spells for FC Twente and Oxford United. He has played for a number of clubs since, including Stretford Paddock, Southport and Warrington. He now plays for the side of the Northern Premier League First Macclesfield Division.

Andre Dozzell (Ipswich Town)

Unlike many of the previously mentioned, Dozzell would become a first regular team player according to the U19 euros. He made 93 appearances for Ipswich between 2016 and 2021 before joining QPR. He is currently playing for the Portsmouth championship.

Mason Mount (Chelsea)

Mount, who was one of the interpreters outside of England in the final against Portugal, would make 195 appearances for the Chelsea childhood club between 2017 and 2023. He joined Manchester United in 2023 for 55 million pounds sterling, but had trouble hurting.

Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)

After an impressive performance at the euros, Sessegnon obtained a move of 25 million pounds sterling in the Spurs in the summer of 2019, although its charm at the North London Club was prey to injuries. He played 57 appearances through a five -year spell before joining Fulham in 2024.

Lukas clean (Manchester City)

Nmecha has played two championship matches for Manchester City and also represented England and Germany at under 21. He spent most of his time in City on loan, with spells such as Preston, Wolfsburg, Middlesbrough and Anderlecht.

He recently signed for new boys from Premier League Leeds United after a four -year productive spell in Germany with Wolfsburg.

Darnell Johnson (Leicester City).

Johnson failed to make a competitive appearance for Leicester and spent time in Hibernian, Wigan and AFC Wimbledon. The defender is currently a free agent after spending last season at the National League Forest Green Rovers.

Substitutes

Ben Brereton (Forest of Nottingham)

After making more than 50 appearances for Nottingham Forest, Brereton Diaz became a prolific attacker for Blackburn Rovers. He also changed nationality to Chilean in 2021. The attacker is currently playing for Southampton, but spent last season on loan to Sheffield United.

Josh Dasilva (Arsenal)

Dasilva failed to reach the note in Arsenal, but after joining Brentford in 2018, the midfielder made more than 150 appearances for bees. His contract in Brentford has now expired, but he will continue to work on his restoration at the Brentford performance Center until the club is updating on his future.

He did not play at the 2024/25 campaign at all due to a knee injury.

Marcus Edwards (Tottenham Hotspur)

Edwards left Spurs for Portugal in 2019 when he joined Vitória de Guimaraes. He prospered and quickly won a visit to Sporting Lisbon, where he became a key player at Estádio José Alvalade. He is now playing for new boys from Premier League Burnley.

Unused substitutes

Nathan Trott (West Ham United)

Trott spent much of his time in West Ham on loan, with spells such as AFC Wimbledon, Nancy and Vejle. He now plays as a goalkeeper for the Danish side of Superliga Copenhagen.

Jacob Maddox (Chelsea)

As a certain number of previously mentioned, Maddox had trouble making a name for himself in Chelsea and spent time in Cheltenham, Tranmere and Southampton. The midfielder also joined Vitória de Guimaraes for a permanent agreement.

He is now playing for Yeovil Town after spells in Walsall and Forest Green.

Reece James (Chelsea)

The most prosperous player of this England team in 2017 was undoubtedly an unused replacement against Portugal. He recently raised the club World Cup with Chelsea.
