Bonmati feeling “100%” recovered from meningitis after having directed Spain in the Euro 2025 semi-final

Aitana Bonmati said that she was back to her best after playing in the 2-0 Friday victory against the hosts in Switzerland who took Spain to the semi-final of Euro 2025 for women.

The winner of the Ballon d’Or, Bonmati was twice, was appointed player of the match in Bern during his second departure at the tournament after having recovered from a viral meningitis which briefly threatened his chances of playing in the euros.

“Yeah, today, I felt 100% physically. It was an intense 90 minutes, which I used to do, so I’m happy,” Bonmati told journalists.

“I did not know if meningitis would be a problem for the whole tournament, I worked hard to be ready as soon as possible and now I have my reward.”

Bonmati played the pass from which Athenea del Castillo broke the courageous Swiss resistance in the 66th minute at the Wankdorf stadium and was the key to the possession of the patient in Spain.

“I wanted to enjoy and feel like a football player, confident and full of energy. I suffered from something that was out of my control, but I overcome it and I am proud to have returned it.”
