Middlesbrough Council is looking for compassionate, resilient, and dedicated individuals to join our Children’s Services as Residential Support Workers and Resource Workers.

Opportunities Available

We currently have a range of exciting opportunities across our residential and outreach services which are detailed below: Please specify which role you are applying for in the application form:-

Complex Needs Residential Homes

Permanent vacancies available for:

37 hours per week permanent

31 hours per week permanent

25 hours per week permanent

Supporting children and young people with complex needs in a residential setting.

Mainstream Children’s Homes

Permanent full-time vacancies:

37 hours per week permanent

Join our established residential teams as we continue to develop and expand our children’s residential provision.

Outreach Service

Supporting children and young people with complex needs in their own homes and within the community:

Permanent part-time vacancies

Fixed-term full-time vacancy

Shifts are worked in line with service needs and include evenings some bank holidays and alternate weekends. Posts may also require participation in a sleep-in rota. Additional payments are available for sleep-ins, waking nights and weekend working.

About You

We’re looking for people who are passionate about supporting children and young people to thrive.

You will bring:

A good standard of literacy and numeracy, along with basic IT skills.
A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent), or a willingness to achieve this qualification within an agreed timeframe. Middlesbrough Council will cover the course fees.
Recent experience of supporting children or young people with emotional, behavioural, or additional needs. This may be from employment, volunteering, student placements, caring responsibilities, or personal experience.
Excellent communication, listening, and teamwork skills.
Emotional resilience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships.
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays, waking nights, and sleep-ins where required.

Working as part of a supportive and experienced team, you will help to create a safe, nurturing environment where children and young people can flourish.

Your responsibilities will include:

Creating and maintaining a safe, caring, and supportive environment.
Building positive and trusting relationships with children and young people.
Supporting young people to develop independence, life skills, and confidence.
Encouraging participation in education, training, leisure activities, and community opportunities.
Supporting children and young people’s emotional wellbeing and development.
Providing direct personal care where required within our complex needs services.
Working closely with families, professionals, and colleagues to achieve positive outcomes.
