Mexican Football Federation Javier Hernandez after sexist remarks
The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) inflicted a fine on Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and launched an investigation after the former Manchester United striker published social media videos who declared that the football authorities “promoted sexist stereotypes”.
In a joint declaration published Wednesday by FMF as well as the best male and female leagues – Liga MX and Liga MX Femenil – officials said that Hernandez’s remarks violated their sex and diversity policy and constituted a form of media violence.
A representative of the Chivas Guadalajara player did not immediately respond to a request for comments from Reuters.
The FMF has inflicted a financial fine and issued a warning, and more serious sanctions could follow if Hernandez repeats this behavior.
“”A few days ago, on the “Tiktok” social media platform, Hernandez made statements that promote sexist stereotypes which are considered to be media violence and go against gender equality in sport“Said the football bodies in the statement.
“”The gender and diversity commission announces that it has launched an investigation which aims to prevent and punish this behavior, determining to impose a financial sanction and a warning on Javier ‘El Chicharito’ Hernandez, declaring that this commission will take more serious measures in the event of a repeated offense. “”
Hernandez, 37, published videos during the weekend during which he called on women to “be guided by a man” and accused women of “eradicating masculinity”.
The high -level athlete also said that the company had become “hypersensitive” and asked for feminist opinions on domestic roles.
The remarks were widely criticized as sexist and disconnected from contemporary society, which aroused the condemnation of fans and public figures, including President Claudia Sheinbaum.
“”He is a very good footballer, but in terms of opinion on women, I think he still has a lot to learn, because women can be what we want to be“Said Sheinbaum at his daily press conference on Wednesday.
Hernandez, the top scorer of all time in Mexico, joined the Chivas childhood club in January 2024 after playing for the Galaxy and several major European teams, including Manchester United, West Ham United, Real Madrid and Seville.
Chivas also condemned his remarks.
“”The club has taken appropriate measures in accordance with its internal regulations“Said the Liga MX side.
“”As an institution with a deep feeling of social responsibility, we firmly reject any behavior, position or expression that strengthens stereotypes that limit freedom, respect and complete development of all people. “”
