Manchester City football director Txiki Begiristain left the Premier League holding after 13 years and will be replaced by Hugo Viana from Sporting, the club announced on Thursday.
Begiristain leaves following a season of 2024-20125 without trophy and with City still in the shade of more than 100 accusations for alleged violations of the financial regulations of the Premier League.
Begiristain and the municipal director Pep Guardiola were teammates in Barcelona and worked in close collaboration in City.
“Everyone in Manchester City would like to thank Txiki for everything he has achieved during his stay at the club, and we are impatient to pay tribute to his exceptional contribution in September”, ” City said in a statement.
Begiristain previously was director of football in Barcelona for seven years until 2010. He not only helped to bring Guardiola to town in 2016, but also supervised his appointment to Barcelona in 2008.
