When Tosin Adarabioyo moved along the Thames to join Chelsea de Fulham in the summer of 2024, the defender issued the reasons explaining why he had signed for the Blues.
Simply, he said he wanted to help the blues move “in the direction we want to go”. To put it clearly, the defender wanted to add silverware to his CV.
Quick advance until May 2025 and Tosin was on the ground in Wroclaw, Poland. A large smile engraved on his face, celebrating with his teammates in front of the itinerant Chelsea fans while we raised the trophy of the conference league. He had held his promise.
However, there is always the possibility of moving silverware and that Tosin discusses with us before the final of the World Cup of the FIFA on Sunday, where we will face PSG, the defender is full of enthusiasm when he plans to add another trophy to his collection.
“It’s fantastic to reach the final and we are all impatient to do it,” said Chelsea No.4, with a radiant smile. “We focused throughout the tournament and we have a huge game to do now, which we are going to give everything.
“For us, this is an incredible position to play against teams from around the world. It is football, bringing together different countries and we are happy to do it and be in the final.
“It was an incredible competition and it is a great success for us to be in the final. But we know that the work is not over yet and we will give everything on Sunday.
At 27, Tosin is one of the older men of the Enzo Maresca team. To say that before, he is even at a distance near to strike 30 feels a little strange, but it is a role that the defender has adopted and understands that he is required to be a “leader” for his young teammates.
The former Fulham man explained how he helps the other team players, while revealing one of the secrets of our success in the United States – hard work combined with arrest times and a planned team link.
“It’s really strange!” Tosin said he was one of the experienced heads of the locker room. “I am only 27 years old, but I am one of the most senior players on the team.
“We have a really talented young team, with incredible players and I just try to help and offer advice and advice to the guys where I can.
“Our minds were put in the final and the gaffer (Enzo Maresca) was great, giving us downtime wherever we were. We made a lot of trips to this tournament, so I think that doing it was really beneficial for us.
“We were able to have the right time to forget football a bit and simply focus on enjoying our time together and that’s what we did.”
The two goals of Joao Pedro in the semi-finals against Fluminense during his full beginnings were what helped us secure our place in the final against the holders of the Champions League, PSG and Tosin have spoken in glowing terms on the way in which the Brazilian striker has settled since his realization of his change of Brighton.
“Joao settled well in very good and his two goals in the semi-finals were both incredible,” added the defender. “You can see that he has an incredible quality and will really add something to the group.
“We are really delighted that he is here with us in America, helping the team and as I said, he has already settled well in the group.”
With a step to do, Tosin hopes that victory on Sunday will guarantee that celebrations in America eclipse those experienced in Poland.
