The Blues have been chasing Ajax Wonderkid’s pursuit for a few weeks, but the negotiations between Chelsea and the Giants of Amsterdam have taken their time because the London team would not move their second offer of 41 million euros, which was a million more than their opening offer.
The Dutch newspaper of Telegraaf reported on Tuesday that the director of Ajax, Alex Kroes, had reduced the requests to make the right by Jorrel Hato, who preferred a move in western London and had already concluded a personal agreement. Ajax was now happy to accept a total package, with or without bonus, amounting to 43 to 45 million euros.
When Hato joins Chelsea, it will become their eighth acquisition of the current transfer window and the third costs 40 million euros or more. Only Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro cost Chelsea more this summer.
Hato will also become the fifth most expensive sale in Ajax in the history of the club, binding with Mohamed Kudus at 43 million euros.
Hato, 19, played 111 games for Ajax, for whom he became the youngest player with 100 appearances last season.
