Argentina Football Association Allow fans after 12 years

Argentinian football clubs can now accommodate supporters after a 12 -year ban, Argentina Football Association announced on Thursday.

The ban, imposed in 2013 following violent incidents, including the death of a spectator, was now lifted as part of a staging reintroduction before the next series of matches in the current League campaign.

“It is a historic day because it marks the start of the return of fans visiting, allowing clubs who wish to welcome them to do so,” said AFA president Claudio Tapia during a press conference.

He added that this decision was partly motivated by the excitement surrounding the return of Angel Di Maria to the high flight of Argentina.

Test events are scheduled for this weekend, including the presentation of Di MarĂa with Rosario Central at the Lanus stadium and the visit of River Plate at the Cordoba Instituto.

Rosario Central President Gonzalo Belloso called on fans of his club to behave appropriately in the middle of the renewed presence of rival supporters.

Javier Alonso, the Minister of Security of the province of Buenos Aires, stressed that clubs wishing to welcome visit fans will have to obtain the approval of the authorities and that the external team must ensure the responsible behavior of its supporters.
