Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has denied rumors that Florian Wirtz has agreed a new deal to stay at the club. In recent weeks, German media have claimed that Wirtz has agreed a deal to keep him at the club until at least 2027.
The plum of many eyes, including those of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Wirtz would cost any suitor 150 million euros to snatch him from Leverkusen. Carro did, however, confirm that a sale could be on the horizon next summer.
“I would have been happy if that had been true. The club wants him to stay at Leverkusen at least until the 2026 World Cup, so it makes sense to extend the contract,” he commented to Kolner Stadtanzeiger, via Sport.

However, as long as Wirtz has not yet signed and a transfer next summer remains a possibility from Bayern’s point of view, they want to stay in the race for Wirtz… pic.twitter.com/4URaF5ohBo

Carro was also asked about Wirtz potentially leaving this coming summer, in case he doesn’t sign a new deal.
“It will be difficult, we have to be honest. It’s not impossible, but it’s not what we want.
That said, Sky DE correspondent Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that Bayern Munich are aware that Wirtz is engaged in positive discussions with Wirtz.
Wirtz’s current contract runs until 2026, and allowing him to enter his final season on this contract would risk costing Leverkusen hundreds of millions of euros. Madrid’s local press say Los Blancos believe he could be their long-term answer to Luka Modric’s departure.
