Borussia Dortmund wants to re-sign the Chelsea Carney Chukwuemeka midfielder next season, explains sports director Sebastian Kehl.
Chukwuemeka, 21, came for the last 15 minutes of the Dortmund 3-2 dramatic against Real Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup.
With its loan spell – which started in February – now finished, Chukwuemeka will return to Stamford Bridge.
“We will certainly have other discussions in the coming days on his situation,” said Kehl.
“I think it was a good decision of Carney to join us. Now, let’s see how we manage everything. It will not be easy, but we will try to keep it because he is a very good player.”
Chelsea is supposed to want around 40 million pounds sterling for a player they signed at Aston Villa in 2022.
“It is always easier to lend a player than to buy one, especially in the range of Carney (Price),” said Kehl.
“But let’s see. We are not so advanced (in talks) right now, but I can tell you that we are close enough to the player, and he likes Dortmund.
“Everything else will be decided between Chelsea and us. It will not be tomorrow. It will not be on Tuesday. I think it will take more days.”
Kehl also wanted the winger Jamie Gittens to be well after his move of 48.5 million pounds sterling in Chelsea.
“We have had many discussions with Chelsea in recent weeks,” he said.
“We refused an offer on June 10, but now we have reached an agreement. Jamie wanted to make this next step, and Chelsea will get a very professional and very motivated young player, who still has a lot of potential.
“We built him for five years here in Dortmund. He is a big child, and we wish him all the best.”
