Exclusive: Alan Smith insists that “appropriate” arsenal fans will meet behind Noni Madueke
The winner of the title of Arsenal, Alan Smith, insists that Noni Madueke will prove to be a clever summer signature of the manager Mikel Arteta.
The arrival of the former Chelsea winger was greeted by demonstrations of arsenal fans and criticism for Arteta.
Indeed, the former teammate of the Gunners of Smith, Paul Merson, said that the agreement had left him “stunned”.
But in response, Smith said Tribal football:: “I have not heard the reasons for Merson to that. I mean it was a little surprised in a way.
“I thought that his form was consistent and he has an age where he would have only better, who will do only better under Arteta, who is a very good coach, let’s not make us mistaken. He can improve players, and he does it normally.
“He can play both sides, so it’s an excellent option to give Saka (Bukayo) Saka sometimes, to offer an option to (Gabriel) Martinelli, which was a bit from top to bottom.
“So yes, I don’t accept that. You know what? You could discuss the price label (52 million pounds sterling), but I mean, all those who are half decent cost a fortune, isn’t it? Yeah, I hope it will be a good signature.”
Appropriate arsenal fans will support Madueke
Asked about the angry reaction of a section of Arsenal’s support, Smith admits that it left him disconcerted.
He continued: “I don’t understand. I don’t understand. You have to trust your club and experts. You know, these people are deeply watching statistics, underlying statistics and everything else. They are not only, you know, to choose someone by a hat.
“The professionals, they have all obtained their job. There is always a risk element with any signature. But Madueke’s experience now in the Premier League, yes, once he has drawn the shirt, you know, the good fans of Arsenal will meet behind him.
“There is one element with social media, there is always something that can burst, and I hope you can prove them the opposite.”
