
Jan Urban was appointed National Director of Poland, the country’s football association (PZPN) said on Wednesday, with the 63 -year -old man replacing Michal Probierz who resigned in June following a row of his decision to replace Robert Lewandowski as captain.
Urban has become the fifth coach of Poland since 2021, with ProBierz of the longest after taking care of 21 games before the fallout from his choice of captain who led Lewandowski to refuse to play for his country while ProBierz was in charge.
The last Probierz match was a 2-1 defeat against Finland, which leaves Poland third of its World Cup qualification group, and Urban faces a difficult start to its charm in charge with an outside match against the Netherlands on September 4.
“We believe that this choice will allow the national team to develop its full potential. Our goal is to qualify for the finals of the World Cup in 2026”. PZPN President Cezary said Kulesza in a statement.
Urban, who represented Poland 57 times as a player, began his coach career in Spain in Osasuna, where he spent the majority of his player career, as a youth team leader and coach of the reserve team.
His first senior management role arrived in Legia Warsaw in 2007, and during this time, he was also deputy director in Poland in Euro 2008. Urban won the title of the Polish league in 2013 in his second fate with Legia.
Urban’s last role was in Gornik Zabrze, where he was dismissed in April.
