FifPro Chief says the best footballers fear talking about too many games

The best footballers are afraid of denouncing too many games for fear of the impact it could have on their careers, the secretary general of the world players said on Friday.

Alex Phillips was expressed after FifPro held a meeting in Amsterdam with 58 national unions around the world to discuss concerns about how the world director of FIFA sport manages world football.

The meeting occurred less than two weeks after the end of the first World Cup of clubs of 32 teams in the United States, a tournament welcomed as a huge success by the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, but criticized by FIFPro for the requests he has placed on the players already confronted with a congested calendar.

“”Before the club World Cup, I was talking to some of the best stars and they said they did not resume themselves for a time“Said Phillips.

“”One of them even said, “I will not rest only when I hurt myself”. Others have actually been resigned and cynical to speak.

“”Then you see some of the same players two weeks later, having to record social media videos saying: “We think that the club World Cup is great”, because their employers tell them to do so.

“”You have this contradictory situation where players cannot speak. They are in a prompt position. They can speak but it could have consequences.“”

FifPro said the recent concentration of FIFA on the Club World Cup in the United States was an example of the organization ignoring many fundamentally greater problems facing players around the world.

“”It is unacceptable for an organization that claims that world leadership turns your eyes to the basic needs of players,“FifPro said in a press release, citing in particular the” overloaded “match calendar, the concerns of heat at the Club World Cup and a”continuous contempt for players’ social rights“.

FifPro Europe filed a complaint with the European Commission last year, accusing FIFA of having abused its position with regard to its management of the International Match Calendar.

The Summit organized by the Union Friday came after being excluded from a meeting held by FIFA on the eve of the recent final of the Club World Cup.

Sergio Marchi, Argentinian president of FifPro, criticized the management of FIFA of Infantino this week and accused him of having led an “autocracy” in an interview with The Athletic.

FIFA retreded in FifPro in a statement on Friday as it called for a dialogue “with legitimate bodies that first put the well-being of players“And said he had tried in vain to ensure that the union attended his meeting in New York on July 12.

“”FIFA is extremely disappointed with the increasingly dividing and contradictory tone adopted by FifPro leadership“Said the organization based in Zurich.

“”This approach clearly shows that rather than engaging in a constructive dialogue, FifPro has chosen to continue a path of public confrontation “, which aims to preserve” their own positions and interest. “”
