A Liverpool star returned home from the club’s pre-season tour in Asia in a major blow to Arne Slot before the new season.
Liverpool is currently in Hong Kong for his pre-season tour.
The Premier League champions face AC Milan on Saturday before going to Japan to face the Yokohama FM next week.
Slot appointed a team of 29 men for his tour in Asia, with new signatures Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong included. Hugo Ekitike has since joined his new teammates after his transfer from Eintracht Francfurt and seemed to drop Alexander Isak in his interview with unveiling.
Joe Gomez was also included in Liverpool’s pre-season festival, but he returned home.
Liverpool confirmed Gomez’s departure from their pre-season tour, revealing that he had an injury from Achilles.
A press release said: “Joe Gomez left Liverpool’s pre-season tour due to an injury, confirmed Arne Slot.”
The defender should return to Merseyside to undergo treatment on an Achilles problem at the club’s training base.
Slot said: “He was, of course, with us for the first part of the week, but he had Achilles problems.
“We thought it was better to assess him in England and for him to work on him to return to the team, probably in more ideal circumstances for him than to be part of the group that goes out each time.
“So we decided to let him return to England. But we hope and we expect to recover it soon.”
Gomez, 28, only made 17 appearances in all competitions last season in an injury campaign.
