Man United could repeat the Jadon Sancho clause while Marcus Rashford accepts the move of Barcelona

Marcus Rashford seeks to join Barcelona on loan after an agreement would have been concluded with Manchester United.

Rashford has been frozen in United since his absence with the new manager Ruben Amorim at the end of 2024, and he then spent the second half of last season at Aston Villa. He has since been stripped of his shirt number ten in Old Trafford since he told United after he wanted to leave, and he trained separately to the first team.

The winger was not involved in the opening of the pre-season of United this weekend and should rather join Barcelona on loan for the season according to generalized reports. Team Jadon Sancho was also informed that he was free to go to Chelsea last season.

Alejandro Garnacho and Antony are also able to find new clubs while Murim seeks to cut his inflated team and turn around the disastrous form of last season.

United and Barcelona would have accepted the principle of a loan move for the 2025/26 season, with an option for Barça to buy Rashford for around 40 million pounds Sterling next summer. However, it will not be an obligation to buy the attacker and there are now suggestions that United could seek to include a specific clause to protect himself if Barcelona opts against the purchase option.

When Sancho joined Chelsea last summer, there was an obligation to make the move permanent, but Chelsea insisted on a back-out clause which allowed them to pay 5 million pounds sterling so as not to sign Sancho. They exercised this option and Sancho is now back in United in search of a new club.

According to Accounts like Fabrizio Romano on X, it is suggested that United wishes to include this penalty clause again to protect himself if Barcelona does not want to sign Rashford. However, it is not clear if this means that an option will be an obligation or simply glorified loan fees. Although the penalty clause was one of the first examples of such a cost paid in the Sancho loan, paying for a purchase option does not make sense for a purchase club which has not yet accepted a permanent transaction.

Other reports indicate that Barcelona should pay all the supposed wages of Rashford by £ 315,000 per week during the lending period. Rashford has another three years on his united contract.
