The icon of the United States national women’s team, Megan Rapinoe, has never been shy to talk about what she believes, to make her talk both out of the field.
The former American football star, who made more than 200 caps for the USWNT and won two World Cups as well as an Olympic gold medal, was a leading voice in equality control, equality of remuneration and better standards for female athletes in football and other sports.
Rapinoe’s public entries with Donald Trump towards the end of his career catapulted his status outside of America, before continuing to fight for his causes after retiring from the game, including the rise of racism in football. Such a title came after winning the 2019 Golden Ballon Women’s Prize to follow its World Cup Golden Boot Prix the same year.

Using her profile, she declared to Ballon d’Or organizers France Football that the biggest names in male football – like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi – had to be more vocal and more favorable to the problems of the female game concerning equality and treatment of athletes.
She said at the time: “I want to shout:” Cristiano, Lionel, Zlatan, help me! “” She said. “These large stars are not engaged in anything when there are so many problems in male football.
“Do they sit everything?” They believe it, but that’s not true. Who will erase Messi or Ronaldo from the history of world football for a statement against racism or sexism?

“They grew up in a bubble because of their exceptional talents. They were cut off from the real world and were at 20 years old. I am both sad and angry. I would describe discrimination to them. I would also tell them that we need the support of men, even if they are not the first affected. They must be our allies.
“Imagine the impact if Cristiano Ronaldo said:” We have to invest in women’s football. “It would be huge (if Messi left the field because of the racist song).
