The Indian Federation confirms that Guardiola and Xavi coaching requests were hoax
Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez coach requests to manage the Indian football team turned out to be a hoax, the National Association announced on Saturday.
Subrata Paul, director of the national team of the All India football federation (AIFF), said Xavi earned earlier this week applied to vacant work.
But the Aiff this weekend said that the approaches were not “authentic”.
“AIFF has received an email providing applications from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez.
“The authenticity of their applications could not be confirmed, and it has since appeared that messaging requests were not authentic”, ” AIFF said in a statement.
The request of Manchester City director, Guardiola, has never been reported earlier.
The Indian male team has been without coach since Spanish Manolo Marquez resigned earlier this month as a chief coach after only a year and a victory in eight games.
The AIFF announced the position and later declared that it had received 170 requests.
The men of India are 133rd in the FIFA ranking – their lowest place in almost a decade – and have won only one of their last 16 games.
