Arsenal announces the signing of declaration of Gyokerres “ Exceptional ” from Sporting
Arsenal has signed the Sporting Viktor Gyoking striker in an agreement up to 73.5 million euros.
The Swedish international has written a five-year contract with the Gunners, and he will now create a link with his new teammates in Asia for their pre-season tour.
The club has confirmed that Gykerres would wear the famous shirt number 14, immortalized by Thierry Henry.
The London giants would pay the Portuguese club a guaranteed 63.5 million euros, plus 10 million euros in additional modules.
In the official declaration of Arsenal, manager Mikel Arteta said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyokerres to the club.
“The consistency he showed in his performances and his availability has been exceptional, and his contributions to the objective speak for themselves.”
In his first interview with his new employers, Gyokerers said: “To be part of this club and score in this kit and with this badge in front of all the supporters, I cannot wait. It will be an incredible feeling.”
Arsenal and Sporting had been locked in long negotiations, the transfer was maintained due to disagreements on the bonuses of the agreement.
Sporting would have liked the additional modules to be based on performance, while Arsenal wanted to set more difficult targets.
There were also frictions at the end of Gyokerers after failing to introduce himself for pre-season training to force a move in northern London.
Arsenal threw his goal on the 27-year-old after initially targeted the RB Leipzig Benjamin Sesko striker, but has seen no progress beyond interest.
Gyokerres joined Sporting de Coventry in July 2023 and scored 97 goals in 102 appearances, helping the club win consecutive titles from Primeira Liga.
The interest in its services increased following the last campaign, which saw it clear 54 times in 52 games.
Gyokerres has played 26 games for Sweden since its beginnings in 2019, scoring 15 goals.
Arsenal will face Newcastle on Sunday in the Singapore National Stade before the final match of his tour, against Tottenham in Hong Kong on July 31. Their first match of the new Premier League season is absent from Manchester United on August 17.
