Real Madrid criticized the intention to play the December Laliga match between Villarreal and Barcelona in the United States.
Madrid said that the proposal “would give an excessive sporting advantage to the teams involved and” would establish an unacceptable precedent “.
On Monday, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) agreed to transmit to the UEFA a request for a game of the match of the day 17 – which should be played on the weekend of December 20 – at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Laliga first offered to play a competition match in Miami during the 2018-19 season, but was forced to postpone the plans due to the opposition of FIFA, the RFEF and the American Football Federation.
Madrid clashed with Laliga on a series of problems in recent years, the club frequently expressing its misfortune to the leadership of the League under President Javier Tebas.
In a statement on Tuesday, The club said he had already asked FIFA not to authorize the match “without the prior consent of all the clubs participating in the competition”.
Madrid has also called upon UEFA to put pressure on the RFEF to withdraw its request, and the Supreme Sports Council (CSD) of Spain to refuse its authorization.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its members, supporters and football fans in general its firm rejection of the proposal to play the match of the first division of the day 17 between Villarreal CF and FC Barcelona outside of Spain,” said the club’s statement in Spanish.
“The measurement, implemented without prior information or consultation with the clubs participating in the competition, violates the essential principle of territorial reciprocity which governs the league competitions with two rounds (one home match and the other at the home of the opposing team), modifying the competitive balance and granting an induced sporting advantage to the clubs that made the request.
“The integrity of the competition requires that all matches be held under the same conditions for all teams. The unilateral modification of this regime violates equality between the contenders, compromises the legitimacy of the results and establishes an unacceptable precedent which opens the door to exceptions according to interests other than the sportsmen strictly, clearly affecting sporting integrity and risking competition from competition.
“If this proposal is implemented, its consequences would be so serious that they would mark a turning point in the world of football.
“Any modification of this type must, in any case, have the express and unanimous agreement of all the clubs participating in the competition.”
Laliga President Tebas told ESPN last year that the League was trying to reach its goal of playing a competition match in the United States during the 2025-26 season.
The first offer of the League involved a match between Barcelona and Girona in January 2019, when he later suggested playing last season’s match between Barça and Atlético Madrid in the United States
The first attempt was abandoned after having faced the FIFA opposition, while the effort of 2024-25 was abandoned due to a lack of time to organize the game.
Last year, FIFA created a working group to investigate the impact of the competitive national league games abroad.

The director of World Football had been confronted with legal action by the American trade partner of Laliga, relevant sports, after blocked the initial Miami game proposal, before achieving an agreement on the issue.
Laliga is not the only best European league to try to play matches abroad.
The Italian Football Federation supported the plans to take AC Milan against Australia from Serie A to Australia in February.
