Cameroon coach Marc Brys and his staff resign due to unpaid wages

Marc Brys resigned from his then Cameroon coach five months before the final of the African Cup of Nations in Morocco and with the qualification of the World Cup in 2026 undecided, citing unpaid wages for the Belgian and his technical staff.

Brys had a relationship with a blow with the Federation of Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), Samuel Eto’o, since his interview in April 2024, but his post is funded by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.

The coach declared in a letter to the ministry, seen by Reuters, that he had done the “The decision to unilaterally terminate the said Contract of the Cause, due to the non-payment of my remuneration and that of my staff for more than 60 days.”

Fecafoot said on Wednesday in a statement that they noted the resignation and “would implement a coordinated response to mitigate the impact of this vacancy at the head of the technical staff of the national team”.

Cameroon was drawn in a group with title champions of Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon and Mozambique during the Afcon final, from December.

They are currently second in their qualification swimming pool for the World Cup next year in the United States, Mexico and Canada, a point behind Cape Verde with four laps to play. Only the best team automatically wins its place in the final. The qualification campaign will end in September and October.
