US rapper and producer Snoop Dogg has become an investor on the Welsh side Swansea City, the championship club announced on Thursday, with the songwriter joining Croatian midfielder Luka Modric as a co-owner.
The news comes only a few days after Snoop Dogg helped launch the new Swansea home jersey, which had fueled speculation that the Hip-Hop artist would have an even more important involvement with the club.
“My love of football is well known, but it seems special to me that I move on the club’s property with Swansea City,” said Snoop Dogg on the club’s website.
“The history of the club and the region has really touched a sensitive string with me. It is a city and a club of the working class. An outsider that bites, just like me.”
In April, Modric joined American investors Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris and Jason Cohen in the property structure of Swansea, and the club hopes that the last investor can help stimulate their global position.
Snoop Dogg may have arrived at the scene asking “Who am I?” (What is my name?), But since then, the 53 -year -old has become one of the biggest names in the music world.
“The fans base and the Colossal Snoop public will certainly help us,” said the Swansea ownership group.
“He explained to us clearly throughout this process, how excited he is to the prospect of joining the club.
“Snoop has openly shared his love for football and his desire to get involved in the game, and we expect his involvement to support us as competitive as possible on the field.”
Snoop Dogg and Modric join the club as they seek to go through financial difficulties after having displayed a loss before tax of 15.2 million pounds during the last financial year.
Swansea will be joined in the second level of English football next season by his colleague Welsh Club Wrexham, which resulted from the national league marases under the property of Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney.
Wrexham has increased in prominence under their Hollywood owners and their Welcome to Wrexham The television series brought them to a global audience, and perhaps Swansea could consider making their own “dogguimentary”.
