Feyenoord shot Fenerbahce in the Champions League qualifications

Feyenoord’s boss, Robin Van Persie, will return to Istanbul to meet his former Fenerbahce club after the two parties were fired against each other during the UEFA Champions League on Monday for the third qualification round.

Feyenoord and Fenerbahce met before twice in official matches, twice during the UEFA Europa 2016/17 league. The Turkish giants won the two 1-0 games thanks to the goals of Emmanuel Emenike and Moussa Sow.

The meeting between the two parties means that the manager of Feyenoord, Robin Van Persie, will return to the Sukru Saracoglu stadium for the first time since his departure from Fenerbahce in 2018. After leaving Manchester United in 2015, the Premier League icon played two and a half seasons in Istanbul, during which he scored 36 goals in 87 games for Fenerbahce.

The Brazilian striker recently underwent a muscle injury and is on the way to Olympique Marseille. Vice-captain David Hancko will also miss the qualifiers while the Slovak international finalizes a move on the Saudi side al-Nassr.

Feyenoord and Fenerbahce will meet on August 5 or 6 for the tie at home, and August 12 for equality outside.

Feyenoord launched his Eredivisie campaign on August 9 with a home match against Nac Breda, while Fenerbahce will play his first super lig game the same day against Alanyaspor.
