Wayne Rooney: Manchester United and England legend in her own words

WR: With management, it was something in which I always wanted to enter. I saw it as a challenge. I always want in life to be challenged and to take things up, but I also understood that there is a chance that it could also go wrong. But I don’t mind taking this risk and this challenge.

Some former players could wait for the perfect opportunity. The county of derby … I played there and Phillip Cocu was dismissed. We went to the administration. It was a really difficult start of management, but I felt that we had done a very good job.

At DC United, when we went there, I felt that we had done a good job even if it was not represented in this way. They had ended up in the three seasons before going there and we brought them to a point of the play-offs.

Birmingham, everything was bad – the moment, the fans did not really give me an opportunity, we lost games. It was just at the time, but looking back, it was not the case.

And in Plymouth, we were going well for what we had, then the decision was made. After that, I thought, “I don’t know why I put myself in these positions”. I tried to make money, I made pieces and I appreciated and I felt that the time had come. So I’m here!
