Nigeria announces the team for the 2024 African Nations Championship
The Nigeria head coach Eric Chellle unveiled a team of 23 men for the African Nations Championship (Chan) next month, to be co-organized by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
In a daring decision, Chelle placed his confidence in the Champions of the Champions of the NPFL Remo, with nine players of the winning team of the League, making the final cup.
Captain Junior Nduka makes the headlines on the list, joined by Godwin Obaje and Sikiru Alimi, both expected to anchor the quest for the glory of Super Eagles. Others include Ozoemena Ani, Stephen Mayo and Sodiq Ismaila, as well as Anas Yusuf.
After weeks of intensive training at the Remo Stars Sports Institute of the State of Ogun, the team left Nigeria Thursday evening on the way to Zanzibar for the second phase of their preparation.
The Zanzibar training camp, from July 25 to 31, will offer the team fine adjustment of the team before the tournament kicks off. As part of their end preparations, the Eagles will face Zanzibar in two friendly matches on July 28 and 31.
“We are all like brothers, we know ourselves of different clubs. It’s normal, to meet us here ”, Obaje told Super Eagles Media.
“I look forward to the tournament. I am ready and we have to give our best. You know that Nigeria is one of the best countries in Africa. We prepare very well. ”
Coming in group D, Nigeria will face the champions in title Senegal, Sudan and Congo in what promises to be a fiercely disputed group phase.
