Customer Service Operative

Are you a book lover who enjoys helping readers? Do you like clear communication and a tidy schedule? Pluto Press is looking for a friendly, organized Customer Service Operative to join our team on a freelance basis. In this role you will be the main point of contact for readers who have questions about their book orders, eBooks, and deliveries. You’ll work from home, manage an email inbox, and work with the marketing team to make sure every customer feels valued. Training is provided, and you only need to give 1‑2 hours each weekday. The Role

We are looking for a friendly, organised and proactive Customer Service Operative to join our team on a freelance basis. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our readers receive excellent service when they contact us about their book orders.

Your day-to-day work will involve responding to customer queries via email, assisting readers with placing orders or accessing their accounts and eBooks, and liaising with our distributors to resolve delivery issues. You’ll manage an inbox, making sure all messages are handled efficiently and professionally. Training and ongoing support will be provided.

This is a digital-first role, ideally suited to someone who is confident working independently and maintaining a consistent schedule. This role is ideal for someone who can commit between 1-2 hours every weekday to providing our customer support.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive and professional experience for customers who contact Pluto Press.
  • Manage the customer service inbox, ensuring all queries are tracked and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with readers via email.
  • Work with our distributors to troubleshoot order or delivery issues.
  • Keep accurate records of customer interactions and resolutions.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Marketing to improve the overall customer experience.

About You

  • Experience in a customer service role is preferred, but not essential.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • Confident managing an email inbox (Gmail experience preferred).
  • Able to work with several different databases to answer customer queries.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Enthusiasm for books and publishing is a plus!
