Job summary

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR 30 MONTHS DUE TO FUNDING

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Research and Evaluation Division in Public Health Wales as a Data Analyst within the Evaluation Teamworking on the Optimising Pathways Improvement Programme (OPIP). This programme will transform obesity care across Wales through My Path Cymru, a nationally coordinated, digitally enabled pathway designed to improve access to evidence-based weight management support, reduce health inequalities and create Wales’ first national obesity outcomes dataset.

Main duties of the job

A multifaceted evaluation is being undertaken as part of the programme, covering outcome, economic, process, implementation and equity components. Drawing on routine service data, national datasets and linked data sources, the Data Analyst will work as a core member of the evaluation team to help develop and implement the analytical approach and generate insights on clinical outcomes, service performance, equity of access, workforce impacts and cost-effectiveness across Wales.

This role sits within a supportive multidisciplinary team with a strong focus on evidence, data and evaluation. It offers an exciting opportunity to use data and analytics to support service transformation and improve population health outcomes across Wales. Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

• Educated to degree level in a numerate subject OR equivalent qualification OR equivalent level of knowledge and skills
• Specialist knowledge and experience of statistical and analytical techniques

Desirable

• Knowledge and interest in Data Science techniques
• Master’s degree in a numerate subject OR equivalent qualification OR equivalent level of knowledge and skills

Experience

Essential

• Experience of performing complex analytical tasks and creating outputs for use by others
• Experience of communicating complex information to a non-technical audience

Desirable

• Report writing and presentation skills.
• Experience utilising complex datasets related to population health
• Familiarity with medical terminology and coding systems e.g. ICD10, OPCS, Read codes, SNOMED CT

Skills and Attributes

Essential

• Advanced IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office applications
• Knowledge and experience of specialist computer software, such as SQL, R studio or Google Cloud Platform for the production of complex analyses of public health or related data.
• Understanding of Public Health Wales policies and principles and the ability to work within these guidelines.
• Clear understanding of current and ongoing issues affecting public health.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of our workplace values, together with the underpinning behaviours identified for success in this role
