We have an exciting opportunity for a Project manager to join the team within the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing. You will provide leadership and oversight to optimise project management, to support staff development, and to contribute to research outputs, within a well-established international collaborative research team (UK and Nepal).

The successful candidate will play a leading role to ensure communications between sites and funders, and with external stakeholders are continually delivered, to ensure that the study is run effectively according to clinical, ethical, financial and legal requirements, and meets all milestones and targets.

The post holder will work closely with Principal Investigators (Professors Mike Lean in Glasgow, Scotland, and Biraj Karmacharya in Dhulikhel Hospital, Nepal) and with other members of the Trial Management Group (Work-Package leaders) including a Nepal-based Project Coordinator at Dhulikhel Hospital, to ensure reliable planning and implementation of research activities in line with study protocol, funder requirements and agreed project milestones.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Principal Investigators, and with other members of the Trial Management Group (Work-Package leaders) to lead on the planning and implementation of research projects in line with study protocol, funder requirements and agreed project milestones. This work will need to be conducted at times appropriate to colleagues in Nepal, which may be outside normal UK working hours
  • Act as a key contact between community research teams in Nepal and the data management and biostatistics teams in Nepal; and Glasgow University to ensure efficient exchange of information and data transfer across the project team, and to resolve queries about CRF fields.
  • To monitor and oversee that all relevant documentation of training and education of research staff are obtained (e.g., health professionals, education and community volunteer staff) maintaining full compliance as required.
  • To liaise with Nepal-based project managers and finance offices to priorities and oversee that all study sites have appropriate resources, and equipment to deliver the protocol, whilst identifying any potential risks.
  • Act as the main point of contact for staff and sponsors of the studies and external queries. This includes responsibility for maintaining the study’s website.
  • Play a lead role in liaising with Nepal-based Project Managers to prepare, monitor and update reports,  on milestone achievements, threats and mitigations, finance reports, recording/ reporting/collating of serious adverse events, etc for Trial Steering Group, funding agencies, Ethics Committees, Trial Registry, and other bodies as necessary.
  • To oversee archiving of research data in accordance with statutory requirements and the specific requirements related to the research study.
  • Assist in gathering, analysing, and interpreting data, and contributing to the drafting of research papers. Oversee internal reviews and manage the submission process for publications in peer-reviewed journals. Coordinate the preparation and delivery of presentations for national and international conferences, which may involve travel. The role may require local, national, and international travel, including trips to Nepal.
  • Keep up to date with the literature, legislation and emerging opportunities in the field, and share relevant knowledge and insights with project members.
  • Engage in personal, professional and career development to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory.
  • Undertake any other duties of equivalent standing as assigned by PI or deputy.

Knowledge/Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

  • A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, 10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in a management role(s)
  • A2 Excellent knowledge of project management techniques, tools and research methodologies.
  • A3 Have a strong understanding of the research concepts of the project to a level which permits informed decision making.
  • A4 Knowledge of research processes, including regulatory, financial, and ethical
  • A5 NIHR online GCP Certification

Desirable

  • B1 Professional qualification in a relevant subject area B2 Knowledge and understanding of the University structures, policy, practices and procedures.

  • C1 Demonstrable excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work using own initiative.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 8, £50,253 – £58,225 per annum.  Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended with funding available up until 31st March 2030.
