Salary: £26,000 – £31,000 per year

Firm: Smartgrade

Location: Remote, UK

Are you smart, enthusiastic and looking for a meaningful career? If so, here’s your chance to be part of an organisation that is changing education and improving student outcomes. We offer a fast-paced startup environment and we care deeply about developing our people. The right candidate will have a career path tailored to them, with exposure to all parts of the business to help them learn and grow.

About the organisation

Smartgrade is an assessment standardisation platform that allows schools and MATs to upgrade the quality of their internal assessments.

You may also find yourself getting involved with Carousel, our sister company that provides a retrieval practice and teacher training platform to schools.

Together, we have a presence in 6,500+ schools and are poised for further strong growth in the coming years. It’s a really fun place to work – we don’t have all that big company bureaucracy, but you’ll still be supported to progress in your career.

About the role

At Smartgrade we pride ourselves on having outstanding customer service. While we use AI in many parts of our business, when dealing with our customers we prioritise human interactions, so clear communication and guidance are essential parts of ensuring schools get the most from our product. With this in mind, we’re looking for a talented individual to bolster our customer success team. You will:

  • Respond to inbound email, telephone, and live chat customer support and sales queries
  • Play a proactive role in onboarding new schools
  • Draft and update help articles
  • Help out with other administration and operational tasks, such as preparing assessments and managing spreadsheets
  • Learn a tonne about school assessment and EdTech startups
  • Become a pro in using our support and CRM systems (Zendesk and Pipedrive respectively)
  • Be trusted to work flexibly and remotely
  • Have opportunities to progress your career – support is a great launchpad for working in product, customer success or sales and we’d support the right candidate to make this transition as and when the time is right.

About you

You will be patient, smart, energetic, friendly and well-mannered. You will be flexible and thrive in an environment where you are simultaneously wearing more than one hat. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills – we can’t emphasise enough how important that is.

You’ll also be keen to learn all about school assessment, and to work in a startup environment. You will be based in the UK and be a graduate with a 2:1 or above. Beyond that, we’re pretty open-minded. It would be great if you had some experience of working in a school or customer support environment, but we wouldn’t want to discourage you from applying if you don’t – we’re also open to career switchers and people looking for their first full-time role.

How to apply

Click APPLY NOW, complete the screening questions and attach a CV (pdfs only please; MS Word CVs will not be considered). Cover letters will not be reviewed.

We will look favourably upon responses to the screening questions that clearly describe personal experiences and opinions including specific details. Please try to avoid generic responses that sound like they could have been written by AI. While we are enthusiastic about the use of AI to increase workplace efficiency and save our customers time, our screening questions are designed to get a sense of the real you, and we do not feel that AI-generated responses will give you the best chance of standing out in this way and so will be marked less favourably.

While there is no fixed deadline, we will review applications regularly for as long as the application is live. Previous similar posts have received many applications, so don’t wait to get yours in.
